The Hidden Challenges of Spiritual Awakening (No One Talks About This)

Spiritual awakening is often portrayed as blissful, peaceful, and enlightening, but that’s only part of the story. For many people, awakening can be disorienting, destabilizing, and even frightening.

What Spiritual Awakening Really Does

Awakening isn’t just about adding some new esoteric concept or healing modality, they can help, but it’s more about stripping away illusions.

This can include:

  • Identity shifts (who am I really?)

  • Emotional releases

  • Questioning everything you once believed

Common Challenges

  • Feeling disconnected from others

Many people including myself have lost friends and family members through the awakening process, as our frequency shifts and those around us stay the same, our frequencies are no longer compatible and so they naturally start to grow apart.

  • Anxiety or existential fear

  • Loss of direction

  • Overstimulation or sensitivity

Why This Happens

Your old framework is dissolving faster than your new one is forming. This creates a temporary state of chaos. In alchemical philosophy there are four stages of the Magnus Opus, or the “Great Work”: Nigredo (blackness), Albedo (Whiteness), Citrinitas (Yellowness), and Rubedo (Redness).

Nigredo (Blackness): This stage is all about darkness, chaos and dissolution. It is the first step towards true awakening and purification as the person must confront and overcome their own fears, darkness and negative aspects in order to move into the second stage of the awakening process.

Albedo (Whiteness): At this stage it is all about the purification process and working towards enlightenment. We must refine and purify ourselves and our consciousness in order to gain more clarity of the true nature of the universe and reality.

Citrinitas (Yellowness): Moving into this stage is all about creativity, expansion and inspiration. This is where you integrate your purified consciousness into material reality to start transforming reality for yourself and those around you.

Rubedo (Redness): The final stage of this process is the process of unity and transcendence. This is where you experience bliss, wholeness, unity consciousness and transcendence. This is also known as the Philosopher’s Stone.

This is the process of alchemy, not turning physical lead into gold, but the process of turning your consciousness from a base, impure state (lead), into that of gold, an enlightened purified state that cannot be corroded.

How to Navigate It Safely

  • Ground yourself daily

  • Don’t isolate completely

  • Avoid spiritual overload

  • Focus on integration, not chasing experiences

Important Perspective

Awakening isn’t the end goal—it’s the beginning of real work.
