What is Spiritual Awakening?

Spiritual awakening is the process of becoming consciously aware of your deeper spiritual nature and your connection to something greater than the everyday self. This “something greater” has been described in many ways across traditions — some call it The Universe, The Tao, God, The Creator, Brahman, or simply The All That Is. At its core, it is the same profound reality.

Important note: This is not a religious experience in the modern institutional sense — unless, of course, we return to the original meaning of the word “religion,” which comes from the Latin religare, meaning “to bind back” or “to reconnect.” Spiritual awakening is fundamentally about reconnection — to your true self, to others, to nature, and to The All That Is.

It often begins with a sense of dissatisfaction, restlessness, or a quiet “call” that gently (or sometimes dramatically) disrupts old ways of living, thinking, and being.

For many, it feels like the veil is lifting. Suddenly synchronicities appear, intuition strengthens, and long-held beliefs or life patterns no longer feel true. The experience can bring moments of profound clarity, expanded love, and deep peace — but it can also stir emotional challenges, uncertainty, and the need for inner healing.

It is not:

  • The same for everyone

  • The same as mental health challenges (though the two can overlap — professional support is wise when needed)

  • An escape from life, but rather a deeper way of understanding and engaging with it

In one of the channeled messages from Archangel Ariah, the Holy Trinity was explained in a way that beautifully captures this process:

The Father is The All That Is — unity consciousness, the only thing that truly exists.

The Son is the illusion — the creation, the earthly (and other) realms where separation appears to exist.

The Holy Spirit is the soul — your spiritual nature.

The awakening journey is the shift from seeing life through the eyes of the illusion (believing you are a body with a soul), to realizing you are a soul having a human experience, to ultimately remembering that you are The All That Is giving yourself the beautiful illusion of separation. There is one objective truth, our perceptions of that truth make up our reality. Each part of The Trinity is a point of perception, yet it is all the same objective truth.

As Archangel Ariah has shared: "There is only You and the illusion of You."

At Ascension Healings, we view spiritual awakening through the lens of practical transformation — an ongoing journey of healing, remembering who you truly are, and ascending into greater alignment of mind, body, and spirit. We draw from ancient wisdom, modern science, and direct channeled experience to show how religious, spiritual, and scientific perspectives are often describing the same underlying truths in different languages.

This is exactly why we created The Ascension Framework™ — to provide a clear, compassionate map for every stage of the journey, along with tools, practices, and support to help you navigate it with greater ease and grace.

Whether you are just beginning to question reality or have been walking this path for years, you are exactly where you need to be.

Signs of Awakening & Expanded Perception

Awakening does not look the same for everyone.

Some experiences may feel subtle and ordinary. Others can feel profound, strange, emotional, or difficult to explain.

Common experiences may include:

These experiences are invitations to explore—not instructions to accept every interpretation without discernment.

Awakening is not about believing everything you experience.

It is about becoming increasingly conscious of how you experience.

If an experience is distressing, disruptive, or difficult to manage, appropriate professional support should always be considered alongside spiritual exploration.

The Foundational Model

Before exploring the seven stages, it helps to understand the model beneath them.

1. The One

At the deepest level, there is no fundamental separation.

All existence originates from and participates within the One — God, Source, Light, Consciousness, the All, or whatever language best describes that underlying reality.

2. Separation

For individualized experience to exist, consciousness must experience differentiation.

The One experiences itself as many.

This creates the experience of:

  • Self and other

  • Light and darkness

  • Love and fear

  • Pleasure and pain

  • Life and death

  • Choice and consequence

  • Individuality and relationship

Duality is therefore not a mistake. It is the environment through which contrast and experience become possible.

3. Density

As consciousness becomes increasingly identified with physical existence, experience becomes increasingly constrained and localized.

Within this Framework, “density” describes more than physical matter. It describes the degree of limitation, separation, identification, and filtering through which consciousness experiences reality.

The physical world is therefore not considered unreal.

It is considered partial — one level of an experience that may be larger than what ordinary human perception can access.

4. The Vehicle

Consciousness experiences this reality through a vehicle.

For human beings, that vehicle includes the body, senses, nervous system, brain, emotions, memories, beliefs, conditioning, attention, and awareness.

Each vehicle is unique.

Therefore each person experiences a unique version of reality.

5. Perception

Human beings do not perceive reality in its entirety. In fact we perceive about 0.0035% of the total electromagnetic spectrum and can hear 0.000002% (20-20,000 Hz) of the total physical acoustic frequency range we have detected thus far. Young children can often hear past 20,000 Hz, but adults lose high-frequency hearing over time. By middle age, the upper limit often drops closer to 12,000 Hz to 15,000 Hz.

Our senses detect only portions of what exists. Our brains filter information. Our attention selects. Our beliefs interpret. Our emotional state influences meaning.

We therefore experience a representation of reality rather than reality in its entirety.

6. Experienced Reality

The reality you experience is produced through the interaction between what exists and the way consciousness perceives it.

This creates a fundamental relationship:

State of ConsciousnessPerceptionExperienced Reality

Change the state, and you can change what you notice, how you interpret it, what possibilities you recognize, how you respond, and ultimately what reality you participate in creating.

7. Expanded Consciousness

Human beings have long used meditation, prayer, breathwork, yoga, ritual, magick, hypnosis, plant medicines, energy practices, dreaming, contemplation, and other methods to alter consciousness.

The Framework views these as potential technologies of the interface.

They may change the state through which consciousness experiences reality.

Whether expanded states also provide access to information beyond ordinary sensory and cognitive processing remains an open question—and one that the experiential work behind The Ascension Framework™ continues to explore.

8. Embodiment

A different reality cannot simply be wished into existence.

To consistently experience a different reality, the individual must increasingly embody the internal conditions compatible with that reality.

If you want peace, learn to embody peace.

If you want love, learn to embody love.

If you want freedom, begin making choices from freedom rather than fear.

The inner state is not merely preparation for the outer experience.

It is part of the experience itself.

9. The Return

Awakening is ultimately a movement from unconscious separation toward conscious remembrance.

You do not become something you were not.

You gradually remove the layers that prevented you from recognizing what you already are.

This is why the journey is called Ascension.

It is not necessarily about going somewhere else.

It is about seeing more clearly where—and what—you already are.

The Core Principles of The Ascension Framework™

Principle 1 — Unity

There is ultimately one underlying reality from which all experience emanates.

Principle 2 — Differentiation

Individual experience requires the appearance of separation.

Principle 3 — Perception

Human beings experience reality through limited perceptual interfaces.

Principle 4 — Experienced Reality

The reality we experience emerges through the interaction between objective reality and perception.

Principle 5 — State

A change in consciousness can change the way reality is perceived and experienced.

Principle 6 — Embodiment

A desired reality must increasingly be embodied internally before it can be consistently lived externally.

Principle 7 — Healing

Healing reduces distortions that interfere with authentic perception and participation.

Principle 8 — Integration

Expanded consciousness must be embodied rather than continually escaped into altered states.

Principle 9 — Service

As identification with separation decreases, service becomes a natural expression of expanded awareness.

Principle 10 — Ascension

Ascension is the progressive remembrance of one's deeper nature while remaining capable of conscious participation in physical existence.

Principle 11 — Discernment

Experience should be honored without automatically confusing interpretation with ultimate truth.

Principle 12 — Recursion

Awakening is a spiral rather than a linear progression.

The Seven Stages of The Ascension Framework™

The seven stages describe the recurring process through which an individual moves from unconscious identification with separation toward conscious participation in reality and remembrance of unity.

They are not rigid levels.

You may move between them, experience several simultaneously, or return to an earlier stage from a deeper level of awareness.

Think of the Framework as a spiral rather than a staircase.

Each cycle can reveal another layer of perception, conditioning, identity, and consciousness.

The seven stages are:

1. Discovery — The Call
2. Awakening — Illumination
3. Purification — Nigredo
4. Transformation — Albedo
5. Integration — Citrinitas
6. Service — Rubedo
7. Ascension — The Great Work

The stages describe not only what happens during awakening, but what happens to the consciousness–reality interface as awareness expands.

Explore The Awakening Stage

The Ascension Framework™ outlines seven natural stages of the awakening journey. While the path is never perfectly linear, these stages provide a helpful map. We’ve drawn inspiration from timeless alchemical traditions, the ancient art of inner transformation, to illuminate the process.

How The Ascension Framework™ Evolved

The Ascension Framework™ did not begin as a finished theory.

It emerged through years of spiritual practice, channeling, personal transformation, writing, energy healing, meditation, QHHT sessions, and direct exploration of consciousness.

The earliest teachings focused on healing, self-awareness, energy, intention, and spiritual growth. As the work expanded, recurring patterns began appearing across personal experiences and client sessions.

These observations eventually led to a deeper question:

What if awakening is not simply about changing what we believe, but changing the way consciousness interfaces with reality?

The Framework continues to evolve as new experiences, insights, and observations are integrated.

It is therefore intentionally presented as a living model rather than a finished doctrine.

Why seven stages?
Throughout history, the number seven has appeared as a symbol of completeness, harmony, and progression across many cultures and traditions. We see it reflected in the seven chakras, seven musical notes, seven colors of the visible rainbow, seven days of the week, and many other symbolic systems. While these connections inspired the structure of The Ascension Framework™, the framework itself is intended as a practical educational model, a way to help people better understand and navigate their own unique journey. Every path is personal, and no single framework can capture every individual's experience.

Chakras, Energy & the Consciousness Interface

Across spiritual traditions, human beings have described subtle systems through which consciousness appears to interact with the body and the world.

One of the most widely recognized of these systems is the chakra system.

The Ascension Framework™ works primarily with seven major chakras:

RootSacralSolar PlexusHeartThroatThird EyeCrown

Each chakra can be understood as a point of exploration within the relationship between consciousness, embodiment, emotion, perception, intention, and energy.

The Chakras as an Interface

Within this Framework, chakras are not treated simply as physical organs, nor do we require every traditional correspondence to be interpreted as established biological fact.

Instead, we approach them as an experiential and energetic map.

Each chakra represents a particular dimension of human experience:

Root — Safety, grounding & survival
Sacral — Creativity, emotion & connection
Solar Plexus — Will, identity & personal power
Heart — Love, compassion & integration
Throat — Expression, communication & truth
Third Eye — Perception, intuition & insight
Crown — Expanded consciousness & connection to the divine

These qualities overlap with physical, emotional, psychological, energetic, and spiritual experience.

The chakra system therefore provides a language through which we can explore the whole person rather than treating mind, body, and spirit as completely separate systems.

Energy, Intention & Awareness

One of the recurring principles throughout The Ascension Framework™ is that consciousness influences experience.

Attention changes perception.

Intention changes attention.

State changes perception.

And perception influences experienced reality.

Chakra practices provide one way of deliberately directing attention and intention through the embodied system.

Meditation, breathwork, yoga, visualization, mantra, Reiki, sound, focused intention, and other practices can all be used to explore these states.

Within energy-healing work, symbols and visualization may also be used as tools for focusing or directing intention.

The symbol itself need not be understood as the ultimate source of the effect.

It can instead function as a conduit, focus, or interface through which consciousness and intention are directed.

The Seven-Chakra Journey

The chakras can also be viewed as a progression of awareness.

We begin with:

Root — “Am I safe?”

Then:

Sacral — “Can I feel and create?”

Solar Plexus — “Who am I, and what can I choose?”

Heart — “Can I love, forgive, and integrate?”

Throat — “Can I express what is true?”

Third Eye — “Can I perceive beyond my existing assumptions?”

Crown — “Can I experience myself as part of something greater?”

Viewed this way, the chakra system mirrors the larger Ascension Framework.

The journey moves from survival and identification toward expanded perception, connection, and consciousness.

Chakras & Ascension

The seven chakras should not be understood as seven isolated mechanisms.

They form a connected system.

A person who attempts to expand consciousness without grounding may struggle to embody what they discover.

A person who develops personal power without opening the heart may use that power from separation.

A person who seeks intuition without developing discernment may confuse imagination with insight.

A person who pursues spiritual transcendence while avoiding the body may struggle with integration.

Ascension therefore requires balance rather than bypassing.

The purpose is not to escape the lower chakras and reach the crown.

It is to integrate the entire system.

Ground the consciousness.
Open the heart.
Clarify the mind.
Express the truth.
Expand the awareness.
Embody the whole.

This is why the chakra system remains an important part of The Ascension Framework™.

It provides a practical map for exploring the relationship between consciousness and embodiment as we awaken, heal, transform, integrate, and ascend.

The human energy system is foundational to spiritual awakening. Understanding and balancing your chakras helps with emotional regulation, physical vitality, intuition, and spiritual connection. All of these chakras play a particular role in your health and the functioning of your organs, lymphatic systems, nervous system, musculoskeletal system, and your connection to spirit. Chakras should all be opened, aligned and balanced to maintain proper health. This can be achieved through a combination of focused mediation, diet, yoga, reiki and many other practices. The aura is the electromagnetic field that surrounds the body. There are 7 layers to the aura and each is connected to one of the chakras. The 7 auric layers are: etheric (root), emotional (sacral), mental (solar plexus), astral (heart), etheric template (throat), celestial (3rd eye), and ketheric (crown). When healthy, the entire aura can extend several feet and is very bright in color. The auric field will be much smaller and duller if it is unhealthy or in a weakened state.

Practices for Changing the Interface

If consciousness influences perception, then learning to consciously change your state becomes one of the most practical skills on the awakening journey.

Across cultures and traditions, humans have developed many methods for entering different states of awareness.

These may include:

These practices are not necessarily identical, and they do not require identical explanations.

But many share a common function:

They change the state from which consciousness experiences reality.

This gives us a practical sequence:

1. Change the state.

Calm the nervous system, focus attention, deepen awareness, or enter an altered state.

2. Observe what becomes available.

Notice changes in perception, emotion, memory, intuition, imagery, insight, meaning, and awareness.

3. Discern.

Do not automatically assume that every experience is objective truth.

4. Integrate.

Bring useful insight into ordinary life.

5. Embody.

Allow the new understanding to change how you live.

The goal is not to become dependent upon altered states.

The goal is to become increasingly conscious of the state from which you live.

Universal Principles & Ancient Wisdom

Throughout history, different cultures have developed different languages for describing consciousness, reality, transformation, and the relationship between the individual and the whole.

The Ascension Framework™ does not require these traditions to be identical.

Instead, we explore where their principles appear to converge.

Examples include:

  • Unity — reality ultimately originates from a unified source.

  • Correspondence — patterns may repeat across levels of experience.

  • Vibration — states of consciousness influence how reality is experienced.

  • Polarity — contrast creates the conditions for experience.

  • Cause and Effect — choices and states produce consequences.

  • Intention — focused consciousness can influence perception and action.

  • Transformation — inner change produces changes in lived experience.

  • Synchronicity — meaningful patterns may become more noticeable as awareness changes.

  • Service — expanded awareness naturally creates opportunities for contribution.

  • Integration — spiritual insight becomes meaningful when embodied in life.

These principles are not presented as proof that every spiritual tradition describes exactly the same mechanism.

They are invitations to explore the recurring patterns that appear across humanity's attempts to understand consciousness and reality.

Navigating Challenges & Discovering Purpose

Awakening is not always easy. Common challenges include the Dark Night of the Soul, shifting relationships, identity dissolution (ego death/rebirth), and feeling “in between worlds.”

This phase is temporary and deeply transformative. With the right support, it becomes a powerful catalyst for growth. Many people emerge with a much clearer sense of life purpose and direction.

Support is available through Spiritual Coaching, QHHT sessions, or energy healing work.
