Navigating Your Spiritual Awakening: Understanding the Unique Journey Ahead
There is only one piece of information that is exactly true when it comes to a spiritual awakening, and that is everyone is going to start and experience it in their own unique way. There is no one size fits all approach to awakening, however, there are some similarities that we all seem to experience going through on our journey of spiritual awakening. When I first started to go through my own spiritual awakening, I thought that perhaps I was one of maybe a handful of other people going through this experience and it felt incredibly lonely. I remember anytime I found someone on Youtube or a blog that was talking about this subject, or anything related, I could not get enough of what they had to say. I was yearning for more answers to try and understand what I was going through, but I had no one to talk to.
There were certainly moments in the process, such as the dark night of the soul that people would talk about, yet no good solutions as to how to handle these problems. So now that I have traversed a good portion of my awakening, I would like to offer whatever help I can to help alleviate some of the fears that may come with this process. These are some of the things that I and many of my clients have experienced. These are in no particular order and you may or may not experience one or all of them on your journey.
Loneliness/Isolation
One thing that starts to happen on your spiritual awakening is that you begin to learn new information that to the rest of the “normal” world sounds crazy. Especially the deeper you go and the things you learn start to challenge someone’s dogma, religious or political belief systems. This can cause people to feel isolated from friends, family, co-workers, and so on. They have all this new information that they’ve learned and want to tell everyone they can, yet those people are not ready for this information and cannot process it. A good way to think of this is that most of your life up until the day you start to awaken you are walking around with an AM/FM radio receiver. You interpret the third dimension and nothing further. Then when you start to awaken your receiver gets an upgrade, now in addition to all the AM/FM stations of the third dimension, you’re also starting to pick up on some satellite radio stations. Then when you go to tell your friends and family about this new great radio station you started to pick up, they just look at you like you’re crazy because their AM/FM receiver has no way to receive the signals that yours is capable of. This is exactly what happens when we start to open our third eye chakra and tune into all the other dimensions around us. We start to interpret a whole new dimension of reality, while others can only perceive the third dimension.
Something that helped me through this process was starting to find others who were on the same path as myself. I found Facebook groups, went to metaphysical shops nearby, went to metaphysical/psychic fairs, reiki healers, etc. This opened me up to a whole new world of people who were on a similar path as myself and really helped me to not feel alone anymore. Dark Night of the Soul
A dark night of the soul is experienced differently and at a variety of intensities by each individual. Some people go through it with relative ease, such as myself, and others it can be so intense it leads to or near their death. Now I say relative ease, because it is all relative, what I went through may have been traumatic for some, losing my career, friends, sense of self, wanting to leave the planet, etc. The reason I say that it was relatively easy was because of my divine guidance. My connection with my guardian angel became strong and I learned to listen and let go of fear. I knew that going through those things was leading me towards something better, so I did my best to approach every situation as objectively as possible. My connection may be better or worse than yours, and depending on the guidance that you’re willing and capable of accepting, can determine the relative ease or difficulty at which you can navigate through your own dark night. I would like to clarify why I chose the words willing and capable when talking about your guidance. I say this because we are all divinely guided from the moment we take our first breath on this planet. Some of us can hear our guides speak directly to us, some of us get feelings, some of us are guided to read certain books, or watch certain shows, talk to certain people, etc. Spirit communicates with us in a variety of ways, it is up to us to quiet the mind enough to listen and see the signs around us.
In addition to having my connection and guidance, another thing that helped me through my dark night was knowing that all of this was happening FOR me, not TO me. It was all a way for me to evolve and experience what it is like to overcome some of life’s most difficult challenges, because after that what can’t you do? The point of a dark night is to purge all that no longer serves you and purify your soul for the next phase of evolution. You become empowered, ready to take on all that life has to offer, but this time with a new attitude, body, mind, and spirit.
Questioning Everything
There was a point in time for me where I was questioning everything that I had ever learned, or even was still learning. Every belief system that I had formulated since the time I was born was put on trial to see if it held up to the new things I was beginning to understand. Then there were new things I was learning that were probably untrue at the same time. So there becomes a point where you start taking in all kinds of contradicting information and you don’t know what to believe or where to turn. The answer lies within you. Look within yourself and find what is true for your life and your existence. We get too caught up in trying to live other people’s lives or do things the way that worked for them. I am not saying we shouldn’t learn from one another, but learn and adapt them to your own lifestyle. Find your truth within you and all the noise from the outside will begin to fade away.
Synchronicities
Synchronicities are one of the ways the divine communicate with us. You may in the beginning of your awakening process start to see repeating numbers such as 11:11 or 3:33 etc. Then it may progress into you noticing that they are talking about something poignantly relevant to your exact life situation in a tv show or movie you are watching, offering a solution you may have been looking for. It may include being led to read certain books or articles that have answers to questions you have been asking. You may notice that when you aren’t feeling your best that someone may call and cheer you up at the perfect time. All of these are ways that the divine communicate with us. As you progress you will start to develop a direct line of communication with your guides and be able to ask questions directly. It is up to us to see these synchronicities and understand the communications.
Divine guidance is just that, guidance. They will not tell you what to do, but will offer assistance in helping you navigate through life, especially when you ask. When you ask for help, do not generalize, be specific in your request, however, and this is important, when you ask for help you do not ask. I know this sounds silly but stay with me. For example if you would like clarity for a particular situation, you do not say “please help me, I want clarity in this situation”. You would instead say, “thank you for providing me clarity in this situation”. You command it as though it is already done, and show gratitude for doing so. This is a key that not many people grasp when learning to manifest. Learn this and your life will change leaps and bounds.
Enhanced Connection with Nature
One of the more amazing parts of my awakening to this point has been my increased connection with nature and animals. I have always loved animals, and domesticated ones would always come up to me, but now I am even starting to get more wild animals getting closer, sometimes even allowing me to hold them. I have started to feel and communicate with the trees, feel my connection to the earth, feel the interconnectedness of everything as one.
Getting in tune with nature is a great way to purify yourself. Spend some time each day outside barefoot if you can. This is called earthing or grounding and will allow you to create a connection with the earth and discharge and transmute negative or excess energy. If can’t get outside, imagine yourself growing roots from the bottom of your feet all the way down to the center of the earth. Wrap these roots around the center of the earths core and you will get a simliar grounding effect.
These are just a few of the more common things that can happen to us during a spiritual awakening. Your journey may include only some or all of these things and more. At some point when it feels like your entire life is crumbling around you, you may ask is all of this worth it? I can assure you, it is.
